AGES: Preschool ages 2 – 3
The Star Room serves a group of 13-16 preschool-aged children in a mixed age grouping. Two full-time teachers and 1 full-time assistant teacher staff the classroom. With a balance of child-directed and teacher-directed activities, children in the Star room are solidifying their skills playing interactively with other children, in problem-solving and conflict resolution, and in regulating their emotions. They are beginning to work on long-term projects and ways to represent their work through art and literacy activities. Star children also are beginning to apply their understanding of numbers to real-world situations.

Ellorie Lacey
Position title: Assistant Teacher
Hello!! My name is Ellorie and I have been part of WECP since January 2022, starting as a student employee. In August, I was offered a position as an Assistant Teacher and have been loving this role in the WECP community. I am a Madisonian and have grown up going to school in the area. I graduated from UW-Madison in May 2022 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies, so children and their development is a passion of mine. I look forward to growing in this supportive community and helping children receive support to grow in educational settings.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my two cats Apollo and Bean, usually cleaning up after their messes. I love music, so my house always has constant beats and melodies in the background. I love being outdoors (running, playing tennis, golfing) and being active in my spare time. I recently took on a role in a local Madison magazine (Wrath and Love) as copy editor and chief, so I frequently spend my time proofreading and editing articles and pieces.
Joan Mrkvicka
Position title: Teacher
Hi! My name is Joan Mrkvicka! I joined WECP in November of 2021. I am excited to join this team of professional and caring teachers. I have an animal science degree from Virginia Tech but have been in the early childhood field for over 30 years. I have had a licensed and accredited family childcare business in my home for 25 years, been a nanny, worked in multiple childcare centers and family childcare homes, and worked for WECA as a Relief Squad providing respite for many childcare programs. In my spare time I love being outdoors, riding my horse, training my dog, and volunteering at Badger Kennel Club where we provide fun events and training for dogs and their owners.
