A special feature of the WECP is a 1.5 acre outdoor learning and play space, the Discovery Garden. We have several gardens in our outdoor space, including a Butterfly Garden, Raised Bed Gardens for vegetables and strawberries. We also have a raspberry patch and beautiful sunflowers blooming throughout the gardens. The Discovery Garden also includes sand and water play areas, climbing equipment, swings and lots of green space for exploring, imagining, and running. Children help plant, water and harvest our bounty, which we use for snacks as well as for cooking projects. In addition, there is a small sledding hill and an in-hill “amphitheater” with stage. The toddler area features a shaded sand area and a mini climber with a slide. It also includes the WECP Alphabet Garden with child-friendly plants from A to Z.
